About the Maker

My journey with clay began in my grandmother's pottery studio in Kyoto, where I spent childhood summers watching her transform earth and water into beautiful vessels. As a third-generation potter, I carry forward traditional Japanese techniques while infusing my work with contemporary sensibility. At Clayworks Studio, every piece is handthrown on the wheel using locally-sourced stoneware clay. I specialize in functional ceramics that bring beauty to everyday rituals - morning coffee, family dinners, fresh flowers on the table. My glazes are inspired by natural landscapes: the deep midnight blue of mountain lakes, the soft turquoise of desert skies, the warm rose of canyon walls at sunset. Each piece is fired twice in my gas kiln, reaching temperatures of 2300°F to create durable, food-safe ceramics that will last for generations. I believe that handmade pottery connects us to the earth, to tradition, and to the simple pleasure of using beautiful objects in daily life. When you hold one of my mugs or serve a meal on my plates, you're not just using functional ware - you're participating in an ancient craft tradition that honors both maker and user.
